I propose that there are actually 5 branches of government: Legislative, Executive, Judicial, Organized Criminal, and Propagative. They have always existed and always worked together throughout history in every country. All 5 need to cooperate in order to hold a people together artificially. But the most important is Propagative.
The cult state…of mind
All empires rely on the Propagative Branch.
Empires need to keep their people in a cult state of mind.
A cult state of mind is a low level of hypnotism where the victim can ask questions and even seem intelligent but he will never look at the most basic premises of his empire. This is why people in empires are shocked to find out. Even when presented with evidence they have great trouble admitting it.
Imagine being told that your mother was and still is a prostitute and that your father was a customer and that she tried to abort you but you somehow managed to survive. THAT is the level of cognitive dissonance involved in admitting you are a citizen of a wicked empire.
This is why the propagative branch is so important for an empire.
It is the mental glue that keeps it from unraveling.
Because, if the people ever accept they are a hated empire that relies on slave labor from around the world to keep them in their fat lifestyle -their consciences would not allow it.
The propagative branch keeps us from seeing the truth by creating a culture. The culture of an empire is a myopic state that cannot see the counquered lands and exploited people. When was the last time your conscience bothered you about all the Iraqis killed over the last 20+ years? What did the Iraqis ever do to you?
How about guilt over the children in Bangladesh that sewed your shirt?
The propagative branch designs your perceptions of slavery.
We all know that our empire has black-site torture centers all over the world including right here in our cities.
We also know that Guantanamo bay is a torture center where people are waterboarded daily. Yet it doesn’t bother us because the propagative branch put out the rumor that some of these “prisoners” really are criminals and should never be let loose.
Somehow this is enough logic to twist our myopic morality into thinking it is ok to torture them. Cognitive dissonance acts like the similar poles on 2 powerful magnets in that the points of logic can never be connected without great willpower to want to accept the truth.
No truly righteous people can ever be loyal to an evil exploitive empire. The citizens might change it from within. Empires need approval from their people because the people are the empire. Therefore empires need the illusion of loyalty. That is where the propagative branch becomes essential.
