When crafting a double bind you offer someone only 2 alternatives A or B.
There is a peculiarity of the human mind that occurs when it is in the #ChildEgoState.
When confronted with binary choices we typically do not look beyond them to see if there is a 3rd, 4th, or 5th alternative.

The suggestion forces your mind to only examine the two. Artificial urgency is then used to activate the software. Perform calculation now!

Businessmen and salesmen know this.
“Do you want to close the sale now or wait until after lunch when our lawyers can pick it over?”

On the surface this double bind gives the illusion that you are using time to your advantage and it is your clever idea.

But this is a form of altered state manipulation again. It is interrupting the mental time travel of the other person. The businessman who is examining the contract is way in the future imagining the consequences of this particular day on the future. The double binder forcefully dragged him back into the present. Only adults can time travel and see things from God’s perspective. He verbally grabbed him by the umbilical cord and pulled him into the Child Ego State.

Or any wife can do this to her husband, “Would you rather have a hot meal now or a cold meal later?” instead of saying, “Your food is getting cold” and nagging him.

In this case she is coercing him into the Adult Ego State (or God State) so he must examine the future and make a decision on how he wants it to resolve.

The wife’s double bind is in the choice of timing, now or later. But one way or the other he will eat her food, that is all she cares about.

The God State (as I call it) is sometimes called the dissociative state or invisible observer by hypnotists and psychotherapists. It gives you the ability to look ahead or behind you into the past objectively. The Adult makes decisions about himself. The God makes decisions about everybody else too and includes morality, guilt, shame and conscience. The God state knows it will answer to God one day.
